Monitoring
Monitoring consists of a 4 hour shift, during which you take payments, issue glaze slips, answer questions, perform club sales, and make sure the club is clean. Every club member must monitor 2 shifts (8 hours total) every month prior to any month they wish to use the kiln. For example, if you monitored 8 hours in June, you can use the kiln in July. Monitoring lets members earn the right to use the kiln services (low fire and/or glazing and high fire). Members who are 80 years old and over are exempt. Members who perform another recognized job for the club (e.g. officers, teachers, cleaners, etc.) are also exempt from monitoring.
The documents below are the monitor's guide and are available at all times at the front desk and are also available here for viewing or printing, by clicking on the document name below:

FAQs about monitoring:
- What if I'm a snowbird? Just mark the month(s) you are gone in the hours book, and start monitoring again when you return.
- What if there are no monitoring slots open? If there are no open slots, you may monitor with another person. Try to balance out the number of monitors on each shift as much as possible. Morning slots usually have t he fewest monitors.
- What if I don't know how to do something? Just ask a club member. They have monitored as well, and usually can help you out. If nobody can help you, call the monitoring chair.
- What if I'm the only person in the club? Do I still monitor? Yes, so that members who come by can come in. Exceptions are evening shifts, 4:00PM to 8:00PM. If nobody else is in the club, and you are monitoring alone, you may complete all monitoring duties, and close the club at 6:30PM.
- Important! If you are the only person in the club (monitoring or otherwise), you should NOT operate any machinery, such as the wheel or the pug mill.
