We have some great new tools in the club. New Cookie cutters are available in room 4. New textured rolling pins are in room 3. Let's have fun using these great (and expensive!) new tools and take care of them. Always wipe clean and return to it's original location. Never take them home. The cutters are delicate, so take care not to bend or use too much force. The pins should never get too wet. Just wipe with a barely damp cloth. Enjoy!

GR Pottery Forms
Perhaps you've seen these forms on our shelves in room 2? Wonder what they are?
They are wonderful GR Pottery Forms - forms you can use to DRAPE clay on for perfect forms, or PUSH clay into foam, for easy and consistent plates and platters. We also have templates that can used with the forms to make a pretty edge, and a foot making tool. GR Pottery forms also can be used on the wheel for super easy forming. We are so fortunate in the Clay Corner to have many sizes and shapes of forms, a great value to membership. Try them out, and see for yourself. If you'd like more information about GR Pottery forms, or perhaps want to purchase some for yourself, checkout their web site at: https://grpotteryforms.com/ There are instructions on how to use the forms, both for hand building (drape, push in foams, and using templates) and wheel processes.
In addition, there are many videos online. Here are links to a few: How to Use GR Potter Forms Video How to Use the Foot Maker Video How to Use GR Forms on the Wheel (WA system) |
Slab Rollers
A Slab Roller is a piece of studio equipment that rolls out perfect slabs of clay for hand-building pottery and ceramics.
The slab building technique offers the ability to make forms that would be impossible on a potters wheel. With slabs of clay you can build geometric objects by letting the slab stiffen up a bit and then joining with scratch and score method. Slabs of clay can be laid over hump and slump mold for easy and consistent plates, servers and more.
Important! We have three sets of canvas at each of our rollers. One set each for white clays, red clays, and black clays.

The Clay Corner has a large variety of sprig molds, located in the locked cabinet behind the front desk. Never use anything but Corn Starch on these plaster molds, as other release agents like oil, etc.will ruin these very expensive molds.
To transfer the design of the sprig mold to your clay slab, lightly dust your clay ort he mold with corn starch, then place a slab on the mold, and either use a hand clay roller, or press firmly with your hands. Remove clay from mold and shape into any form you desire.
To help you pull out the clay from the mold, you can use a small ball of fresh clay, push it into the back and pull quickly, this will pull up an edge, slowly remove it from there.

Stamps and Cookie Cutters
The clay Corner has a HUGE selection of cookie cutters and stamps that can be used on your pottery. Cookie cutters are found in the 3rd room, on the shelf (see picture above). Stamps are also in that area, plus we have more stamps in the locked cabinet behind the front desk.
Texture Rollers and Mats
The clay corner has a great selection of texture mats (2nd room) and rollers (in cabinet behind the front desk) that can be used to give your clay great textures.
